I’m Danny Powell; the owner of Powell Guitar. In 2015, I built my first guitar—a Fender Telecaster assembled using a pre-cut body and a Fender neck. The instrument turned out remarkably well, and from that moment, I was fully committed to the craft of guitar building.

My passion soon expanded to building fine acoustic guitars. Early on a friend, and accomplished world-class guitarist, asked me a defining question: Did I want to build for appearance or for sound? The answer was clear. I have dedicated myself to crafting steel-string and classical guitars from the finest tonewoods available with a singular focus on achieving exceptional sound quality.

To get a greater understanding of design, materials, construction and sound quality, I made a pilgrimage to North Carolina to study under the guidance and supervision of Master Luthier John Vergera at the Heritage Luthier School. His vast knowledge and expertise of the history and construction of the Spanish classical guitar was inspiring. His mentorship has given me a clear understanding of the works of great guitar builders like Antonio de Torres Jurado, Manuel Ramirez and Hermann Hauser Sr.

Building a custom acoustic guitar has become my passion. There is nothing more rewarding than creating a handcrafted instrument from nature’s gifts. It feels alive in the player’s hands and can bring a smile with the very first note. I am committed to achieve this result with every instrument.
