My name is Danny Powell and I am the owner of DL Powell Guitars. After a long career in the home building and renovation business, I turned my sights to the art of guitar building. I began this journey in 2015 when my son and I decided to build a “Frankenstein Telecaster” from parts we ordered online. That guitar turned out fairly well (my son still plays it).
Over the next several years I had built a couple other electric guitars and in 2023 I decided to try my hand at building acoustic guitars. My first 2 acoustics were Martin styles from guitar kits. I used a french polish finish on both of them and they had good sound quality.
I became interested in the Spanish classical guitars and the history of its builders and players. I took a great opportuniy to study under Master Luthier John Vergara in his shop in North Carolina. That experience fueled my passion to concentrate on building fine classical instruments.
Each instrument has its own personality and is unknown until it is awakened. There is magic in taking the materials of nature and creating an instrument that has its roots dating back to the 1850’s. For me to be a part of that is a blessing that I cherish.
